Background

Simba Center is a comprehensive shopping mall in Kigali, Rwanda, featuring a large supermarket, retail stores, a children’s entertainment area, restaurants, and a rooftop bar. In 2022, the center introduced the QIOGNG advanced automated parking management system, which includes parking ticket machine, license plate recognition control system, and parking self-service payment machine system.

The parking lot has approximately 200 parking spaces, all located at ground level. It serves a diverse customer base with high traffic volume, including amusement parks, supermarkets, restaurants, and cafes. The demand for parking efficiency is increasing, necessitating a comprehensive upgrade to modern electronic payment parking management.

Solution

The QIGONG parking project team tailored a complete solution for the Simba Center based on the on-site parking lot’s specific requirements. The parking lot has two entrances and three exits, equipped with intelligent barriers gate, license plate recognition systems, ticket boxes, self-service payment terminals, and the QG parking system. It also integrates with Rwanda’s local mobile payment platform, enabling online mobile payments.

Entrance:Two entrances are equipped with license plate recognition and parking ticket machines. Normally, the license plate recognition scans the license plate and the gate opens to enter and start timing. If there is a problem with the license plate, the customer can get the ticket and enter to start timing, avoiding congestion at the entrance and achieving diversified and efficient management.

Parking fee payment:There are two self-service payment machines in the mall. The machines accept cash, coins and MOMOPAY mobile payment. Customers can enter their license plate number or scan their parking ticket to check parking time and fee. After payment, they can receive a receipt, saving time on manual payment and change.

Exit:The three exits are equipped with license plate recognition integrated machines and parking ticket machines. Customers who pay the parking fee can enjoy a certain amount of free time when driving out of the parking lot. Since the parking fee has been paid, the license plate recognition at the exit will automatically open the gate after scanning the license plate number or verifying the parking ticket. If the payment is not successful, customers need to pay before leaving.

The system is a parking management system independently developed by QIGONG. It can record the travel time, photos, and fees of each vehicle throughout the entire process, saving manual steps and ensuring data visualization and convenient query. The open API supports connection to payment platforms, providing managers with operational convenience and cashless operations.
